We are getting underway with our topic on growing and the children are learning how important it is to take care of plants.
Today some of us have been making hanging planters for our strawberry plants out of plastic bottles. The children are very excited that one day we might eat our own home-grown strawberries for snack!
If you have any more plastic bottles at home, please keep adding to our collection as at some point in the coming weeks we will also be making some outdoor sculptures to liven up our outdoor area, and we have seen some great ones made out of plastic bottles and even creatures made out of golf balls!
We have also planted sunflower seeds for a whole school competition to see whose will grow the tallest.
Last week we planted bean seeds, and wrote instructions on how to do it using our phonics. Later on, when they have started to grow, we will practise our measuring skills.
This week our learning is centred around Jack and the Beanstalk. We are learning to recite a text map version of the story and later in the week we will retell the story as our writing task.
Don’t forget to send in your slip if you would like to come and help with our ‘planting party’ on the last afternoon of this half term 🙂
