Superstar Readers This Half Term

Well done to the children who are reading lots at home. It certainly has an impact on the progress you are making and the confidence you are showing in the classroom with reading activities.

Week ending 3rd Nov    Week ending 10th Nov    Week ending 17th Nov

Keep up your fantastic efforts!

Don’t forget those children with 5 or more certificates this half  term will be rewarded with a treat. Some of you are already more than half way there! 🙂

Fundraising

Thanks to everyone who supported the book fair this week. Hopefully you found some great presents and raised money for books for school at the same time.

Don’t forget to bring your pint pots back on Friday filled with lovely things. This will allow your child to dress in mufti on Friday. They will be used at our Christmas Fayre which will be on Saturday 2nd Dec at Park Campus.

We are also asking for donations of second hand books to sell at the fayre, and donations of teddy bears and soft toys (new or old – but in good condition please) to find a new home at the fayre too.

And if you want to come and lend your ideas and support there is a FAVS (friends of AVPS) meeting this coming Friday at Park Campus at 3.30pm.

Or let Miss Barrett know if you can give an hour to help out at the fayre itself. All help and support gratefully received.

Trickers Shoe Makers

The children were so excited this week to meet some real shoemakers to help us with our play.

Scott and Adele from Trickers Shoe Factory came to show us the materials they use, and to talk to us about the process they go through to make their beautiful shoes.

The children listened carefully and asked lots of interesting questions. They were especially impressed to see the crocodile and snake skins that get made into shoes.

Thank you so much to Scott and Adele for giving up their time to come and help us, and for lending us props to use in our play. Much appreciated 🙂

It’s Show Time!

This morning we were very excited to receive an invitation from the classroom fairy.

We had to collect some tickets …. to go to the pantomime!

When we got back to the classroom, it had turned into a theatre!

We all enjoyed watching a show on our screen, with popcorn and drinks, just like at the real theatre!

We even had choc ices in the interval!

Now we know what a show is all about, we are looking forward to starting work on our own winter production. Look out for invitations coming your way soon!

Star Readers

Well done to the children who received a certificate for reading daily at home in the last week of last half term. Thank you to all you parents who are giving your time to supporting your child in this amazing skill.

I have seen in reading diaries that lots of you have been reading lots over the half term break too. Very impressive!

Don’t forget if you get 5 certificates this half term then you will receive a special treat.

Keep reading everyone! 🙂

Sports Day

A huge well done to all of the Reception children for their great behaviour and amazing efforts at Sports Day today. We have talked a lot about sportsmanship and the children all showed themselves in their best light, had lots of fun and congratulated each other.

Thank you to all the mums and dads for your support and participation, and help on stalls, and to Becki for making and selling her fab cakes.

We hope you all had a great day 🙂

Minibeast Mania

The children have been very busy this week investigating minibeasts. They have sorted minibeasts according to their own criteria. They have watched our caterpillars turn into chrysalises (and I am sure into butterflies next week!). They have been on bug hunts. They have used the internet to research minibeasts. They enjoyed the story of ‘The Hungry Caterpillar’.

The children also designed a minibeast lavender cushion and then made it very carefully so that it looked like their design! They used some of the lavender from our herb garden, so they smell nice too! I was so impressed. Here are some of my favourites! I’m sure the children can’t wait to bring them home to show you next week.

What is your favourite minibeast? I think my favourites are dragonflies because they look like they shimmer in the sunshine 🙂

Farm Recounts

The children have all done an amazing job this week of writing recounts about our trip to the farm. We talked about recounts being a piece of information writing. We tried hard to remember what happened in the correct order, and to use sequencing words like ‘first’, ‘then’, ‘next’, ‘after that’, ‘finally’. I am very proud of their efforts and I am sure you will be too!

  Super writing everyone! Well done!
